ABOUT THE CHEF
Old World Sicilian Flavors with Refined Flair
​Born in San Pedro California, Chef Jonathan was raised in a purely Sicilian house hold. He grew up cooking every day with his Nonna Giovanna who lived with his parents. She introduced him to the cultural importance of fresh from scratch cooking. Starting at age 15, Chef Jonathan began to help his uncle Pino in the kitchen at Nellos Cucina which was located in the South Coast Plaza.
By the time he had reached 18 years of age, Chef Jon and Orange County Legend Chef Franco Barone Opened up his first restaurant. That was when it got serious for Chef Jonathan. Working the next 17 years as the second in command and going back and forth from Italy, doing stints at multiple restaurants to acquire as much knowledge as possible.
As the executive chef at Bar One in Newport Beach, Chef Jonathan brings classic and contemporary flavors together with beautiful and colorful presentations.
The opening of IlBarone ristorante in February of 2010 was the realization of a long held dream by Chef Franco and his wife Donatella and at Il Barone ristorante Chef Franco dazzled and impressed Southern California diners. The Barone Family has done it again with the opening of their newest restaurant Bar One with the help of their oldest son Jonathan.
